История любви на фоне оксфордской академической жизни. Историк Диана Бишоп специализируется на старинных рукописях и однажды обнаруживает в архивах некий манускрипт, связанный с магией. С этих пор жизнь Дианы превращается в кошмар, зато судьба сводит её с обаятельным генетиком Мэттью Клермонтом.
