Acid Killer was the second game I did graphics and music for in 1989, while working at New Frontier. Unfortunately, the game was never released and I thought it was completely lost, but recently I found the source code on a very old 5.25 disk I had stored since then, and managed to bring it back to life.
The music you hear here is some of the first I ever made for a game, or anything else for that matter. It was written just a few months after I started messing around with a program named Music Box for the ZX Spectrum, and that's when I discovered that I was able to make music thanks to it.
At that time, while I was learning to make music on my own, I used to recreate the music I heard on the radio, and 3 of the songs in this game are exactly that, versions of songs from the time adapted to the ZX Spectrum, which was a good way to learn.
In particular, the game's main menu tune is based on a song called Tanzen, by Tragic Error. The style of that music was called "New Beat", and I ended up calling my song "New Bit 2".
The tunes Mc Mix 1 and Mx Mix 2 were inspired by the megamix albums of the time, and contained a succession of several songs that I liked, like some by the group Azul y Negro and Mecano, or others that I thought would be funny, like Ravel's Bolero or La Cucaracha.
The rest of the tunes are completely original, but I must especially mention "Incordiomusic", which sounded at the beginning of the game in a very ugly menu, poorly made on purpose, before the real menu.
If I remember correctly, it's one of the first experiments I did with music on the computer, and since it was so horrible, it fitted the fake menu perfectly.
The music has been recorded directly from the game and my ZX Spectrum +2, so it's as authentic as it can be.
If you like this album and want to contribute in some way, you can buy my other album. ;-)
Cheers!
