A Kickstarter campaign started on January 25, 2017, before canceled on February 15th, 2017, with 2,711 backers pledged $172,503 out of a $900,000 goal. Had the Kickstarter goal been reached, the plan was to have Apocalypse Now in early access by 2019, in time for the film’s 40th anniversary, with a wide release in 2020. The game's platforms would've been intended for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, macOS and Linux.
- A digital soundtrack would have been obtainable, via the Kickstarter tier pledges "Colby" ($95) through "Willard" ($10,000)
A second attempt to fund the game was also announced on February 15th, 2017, via a shift to the website domain ApocalpyseNow.com, with a goal of $5.9 million. The developers reasoning for this change was quoted: "To maintain creative freedom and produce a daring and intense game about the horrors of war, the project is being financed outside the traditional system." 543 backers pledged $174,840 out of the $5,900,000 goal, with the last recorded update of November 1st, 2017, before the website disappeared sometime thereafter.
- A digital soundtrack would have been obtainable, via the "Colby" ($95) through "Hollow Man" ($1,000,000) tier pledges.
Part of the game's soundtrack would have included music created by Carmine Coppola from the Apocalypse Now film, as quoted by the developers: "Carmine Coppola collaborated to create an extraordinary, dense, textural electronic and symphonic soundscape using state-of-the-art synths that veers from psychedelic to operatic. And we are very lucky to be able to use this amazing music in the video game adaptation."
